Let's improve Skype

I decided to write about Skype. The software is one of the most popular in the world. This is very convenient tool for international students to connect to their families. You can chat, talk and see other Skype users for free. Despite these advantages, I've noticed a flaw that all my friends complain about. The problem with the product is that it automatically changes the quality of a connection under some conditions. I've observed that if your channel is too loaded by many applications that consume channel bandwidth, Skype automatically lowers the quality of the connection without any notification of the overwhelmed channel. It would be better if the program could inform a user that he or she should close other applications in order to improve the quality. If a user wants a good connection he or she can follow the instructions, otherwise he or she can ignore it.

Madina'sToulmin model

Choosing my major was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever made. Not because I didn’t know what to. The problem was that I liked different fields (I still do) that seemed unrelated to each other. Well… basically my interests were (and are) neurobiology, architecture and algorithms. I didn’t want to give up all of them. I wanted to find something that unifies all my interests. So… I found it. COMPUTER SCIENCE. CS is not just about computers, honestly a computer scientists, a programmer, doesn’t care about how the machine does all assignments. CS is about how to logically, step by step solve a problem using a programming language. This reflects the third interest (algorithms). What I like in CS the most is that it can be applicable everywhere, even in neurobiology and architecture. One of the ways is to model in 3D. A graphical interpretation of any problem makes it easier to understand and solve. Repeating again, CS is all about problem solving with algorithms and models. This is the main principal to find a solution for any situation.
OK, after this looooong introduction in my problem, here is my model.

It is clear, that the claim is “CS is the best choice for me”

Ground – Computer science gives me an opportunity to unify or find connections between all my interests.

Warrant: CS is about find a solution in a logical way using algorithms. This is the main tool to solve any problem in any field.  CS is applicable everywhere.

Backing: I had 4 semesters of programming on C and C++ at school, at I enjoyed it. When I worked on neurobiology project, my topic was about computers and people and I used a program for the experiment. The way I engaged in architecture was a video game where I modeled and designed buildings in 3D.

Qualifier: Requires much effort.

Try to communicate clearly in an email to your TA or ELA. Post a copy of the email to your blog.

1.Here is my e-mail to my adviser.

Dear Mr. Litchfield

My name is Madina Abdrakhmanova. I am an international freshman majoring in Computer Science. I had an appointment with you yesterday, and asked how I can apply CS to architecture. You gave me the contacts of Professor Andrejasich and mentioned that you could give me feedback on my email draft to the professor and introduce me to him. Would you please review the document I attached? Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,
Madina Abdrakhmanova

2. The e-mail I attached:

Dear Professor Andrejasich

My name is Madina Abdrakhmanova. I am an international freshman majoring in Computer

Science. I was wondering if it would be possible to set up an appointment with you to discuss

ways in which I can apply my CS skills in the field of architecture. I am very interested in

architecture, particularly in the creation of computerized 3D models. It would be wonderful if

you could advise me as to how to go about pursuing this interest. Thank you for your time and

thoughtful consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Madina Abdrakhmanova
